Experimented switching to the disc doctor brushes and fluid while retaining the VPI for drying, and the results have been amazing. Records I'd written off as too noisy restored to excellent condition. Highly recommended.

This absolutely does the trick! I use the TM-8 fluid with a label protector and a goat hair brush and I'm able to get absolutely phenomenal sound out of the records. Additionally, I've used it on some 45s that are 60+ years old and the results have been beyond spectacular!

Posted Sunday, October 20, 2019 by K. Martin Davis I've tried the other fluids and nothing comes close. This fluid protects the vinyl, helps remove static and the final result sounds remarkable. Many times records that were almost unplayable with ticks and pops I've given a thorough cleaning with 5 minute wetting soak then forward and reverse with brush, then vacuum. Try it and you'll never use anything else.

at first I tried it ungrounded for a couple of days and noticed no difference between it and the Hunt EDA I normally use. the mat actually came up with the record.

then I grounded it with the preferred instructed method the cord to the screw holding your plug cover to the wall. no change still ineffective. then I tried an alternate grounding to my power conditioner ground screw. no change then to my phono pre amp ground screw, again no change.

exasperated I then tried various speeds and number of revolutions of the disc sweeping and from fast to slow exiting the disc. again no luck.

while it does an adequate job of removing dust, no more or less than the Hunt brush, it is not an improvement... I used it in low humidity 35-40 % , on both a thin leather mat and a thin cork mat. the mat material made no difference.

not at all what I expected from a Stereophile recommended component

After a cleaning cycle with the VPI solution following by a rinsing cycle with distilled water the record is spotless. If you hear any surface noise after this, it's a defect in the vinyl that no record cleaner can remove. Highly recommended.

I won't bother you with specifics except to say it removes many many things and can make a nasty moldy, dirty, dusty finger printed piece of vinyl look great and sound as good as it can. Of course, I am waiting on the scratch and skip fixer but that'll probably be on some infomercial with a loud bearded man showing the amazing results...

I can't believe it took me so long to discover this thing, since apparently they've been making them in Pittsburgh since 1968! It's like a great kitchen gadget- I couldn't live without a pepper mill or mortar & pestle, but I don't need a motor on them either. Lately I've had incredible luck with rare vintage thrift store finds- NM to Ex+, but filthy. They've been piling up, then I got this thing. It's actually fun to clean them! Farm dirt, lichens, fingerprints, petrified popsicle drips, even Precambrian mollusks dissolve & sink to the bottom, leaving the fluid clear & the label dry. Hold up that 1958 Audio Fidelity copy of Mohammed El-Bakkar's 'Port Said', stare in disbelief at the cover, then say, "Her life is in your hands, dude." But then you must say, "Jesus, man, could you change the channel? Man, come on, I had a rough night, and I hate the f#@%*n' Eagles, man!

Better than the others

Posted Thursday, January 1, 2009 by Marcos After getting a record cleaning machine this year and trying several methods and fluids, as far as I can hear, no one-step process gets the record as clean and quiet as the DD fluid. It takes a little more time to clean a record, but the results are worth it. For myself, I place the record on a clean towel and scrub with a DD brush and fluid - lightly remove with plain Scott toilet paper (DD recommends this) Then, using some of that ultra pure water rinse (there are several) lightly scrub the record with a second DD brush and remove with the toilet paper. Then do one more rinse (I use the same rinse brush) and vacuum dry. I know it sounds a bit time consuming, but it only takes about 5 minutes and the results just kill the one-step methods recommended by the cleaning machine makers. Anyway - amazing stuff when used properly.
